to mark the end of summer, Nic + i recently went on a date night to the newly opened gene’s restaurant in downtown historic dublin.
we have thoroughly enjoyed coast wine house over the past year for celebrations + date nights so i was thrilled to hear that owner dustin snow was opening up a full-service restaurant just steps down the street.
gene’s restaurant, located at 91 south high street in dublin, is absolutely gorgeous thanks to local interior designer liz dutton. i literally want my kitchen to look like gene’s now : )
from the black and white tiled floors to the pretty outside flowers peeking through the cafe curtains to the creamy white walls, i fell completely in love with the space and the ambience.
to be perfectly transparent, gene’s transported me back to charleston for a moment, where every restaurant is unique, thoughtful, and simply a delicious experience in every way.
while the inside is quaint and cozy, the outside brick patio is pretty dreamy itself, with glowing string lights and cottage-style flower boxes aplenty.
okay, so i’ve confessed my love for the thoughtful interior details but how was the service? absolutely perfect. the waitstaff were all joyous, appearing simply happy to be there. the hostess was wonderful, the bartender was attentive and knowledgeable, and our waitress was outstanding.
gene’s boasts a seasonal and new-american menu where the plates are meant to be shared. we loved the whipped ricotta, brassica caesar, and the chicken-fried mushrooms.
needless to say, we’ll be back. i’m so happy to have found a spot like this in columbus – downtown dublin is a gem unto itself and gene’s just added an extra dose of charm, hospitality, and warmth. see you soon, gene.
