This past Friday, I had the opportunity to attend the 2015 CCAD Fashion Show AKA the best fashion show in Columbus.
Let me start by sharing that 100% of the proceeds go to the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD), including funding for student scholarships which basically aides the artistic talent in our city.
The energy and excitement was on another level. I knew it was going to be an outstanding event when I saw the large runway and then spotted local celebrity Mayor Coleman (see if you can spot him, below) being led to his front row seat. Oh, and the music was really amazing too.
The designers and their designs were fabulous. I was highly impressed that these 21 students have the time to design and make an entire collection on top of taking a full-time class schedule.
I was positive that CCAD hired models out through an agency of some sort, judging by their looks and professionalism. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that all of the models are CCAD students that have had a bit of training after casting. Well done, CCAD!
Some of my favorite collections were by Cassidy Overmeyer, Abigail Staley, and Caroll Jeanne Kern. Linh Tran’s collection was memorable with bright colors and “was inspired by a town in Mexico.” I also loved Derek Fergusson who described his collection as a “modern day Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
The audience’s fashion was on point. I felt like I constantly wanted to ask other women who made their ensemble. Oh and I was even asked a time or two, which I obviously found super flattering. I need to also mention the after party was on point – a chic + stylish event all in itself, complete with swanky lighting, excellent food and drinks, and a catchy DJ.
A fabulous night of fashion. If you’ve never been to the CCAD Fashion Show or any fashion show really… and you love fashion… I highly suggest you look into going next year! You won’t regret it!
