Talk about a hidden gem in Columbus… Glass Axis is just that. Glass Axis is a non-profit art center focused on glass art making and learning. I stopped by the facility to learn about their upcoming Glassquerade event and had so much fun!
I had the opportunity to receive a tour of the facility from Glass Axis members and artists Sarah Riggle and Kami Westoff and also to work with Lisa Horkin one-on-one to learn how to make a glass bead. It.was.so.cool! Being drawn to visuals, I loved watching and learning how to melt the glass + add color + design to the bead. Such an art form. And one that’s been around forever. Needless to say, I have a newfound appreciation for glass blowing.
If you’re into art, trying new things, or just looking for something fun to do in Columbus, then I highly recommend you check the place out. They offer all kinds of awesome workshops to try glassworking, one-on-one with a professional glass instructor. You can learn how to make things like flowers, hearts, ornaments, plates, bracelets, and/or stained glass windows.
Also… If you’re looking to try your hand in glass art or are just looking for a fun + festive Mardi Gras party in Columbus, then you definitely want to check out Glass Axis’s Glassquerade event. This Mardi Gras celebration fundraiser is being held on SATURDAY, MARCH 8th from 7pm-1am. This is Glass Axis’s last big event in Grandview and event proceeds will benefit their upcoming move to the new Glass Axis facility in Franklinton (woohoo- another step forward for Franklinton)!
The event will boast glass bead, mosaic mask, and glass voodoo doll workshops and they’ll feature exciting glassblowing demonstrations, performances, live music and dancing. Plus, they will have a high energy glass fashion show.
General admission is $20 and VIP admission is $50 (swag bag included). Ticket prices include appetizers and refreshments. A cash bar will be open all night.
For more information, check out the Glass Axis Website.
p.s. Costumes are encouraged! Enjoy!
