Decorating with bows is one of my favorite ways to decorate for the Christmas season. It’s a simple but absolutely fabulous way to bring a touch of whimsy, femininity, and sweetness to nearly all of your decor. Read on for how I decorate with bows…
Trim your tree with bows.
This is one of my favorite ways to decorate. I like to simply tie the bow and then drape it onto the tree branch. I like to use bows on my trees for another layer of texture and a pop of color. I’ve used velvet ribbon, satin ribbon, and yarn depending on the look I’m going for. You can shop some of my favorite ribbons to use here.
I tied this Hobby Lobby yarn into bows and then draped them on our tree. As much as I love neutrals, a tree is never done until it has some color around here. 🙂
For my mini trees, I like to use velvet bows on as a tree topper. It makes them sweeter and more girly!
Pair a bow with a wreath.
I seldom leave a wreath without a bow anymore – this pairing just makes sense in most occasions. I like using a thicker velvet ribbon on my faux cedar wreaths, mini wreaths, and my diy wreaths. You can shop my very favorite velvet ribbon to use here. I also adore this inexpensive frayed velvet ribbon.
Tie bows around candlesticks.
I love the look of simple gold candlesticks adorned with a pink (or red!) satin bow. It’s simplistic but oh so beautiful and elevates whatever look you’re going for.
Adorn Christmas stockings with bows.
You can use thin or thick ribbon to finish the look of your stockings on your mantel. I love the texture and layering that it adds. The exact satin ribbon I used is linked here… the color is rose gold.
Fancy up kids’ spaces with bows.
I used pre-made bows from Target (similar here) to add a touch of playfulness to the girls’ bookshelves. Below, I added a mini bow to our lil’ nutcracker just because!
Use bows on gifts.
Well, this one is a no brainer… but I wanted to add that if your hesitant/not sure of your bow tying, google/youtube it.. or buy a pre-made bow. I even use the girls’ hair bows on gifts of theirs and then reuse year after year.
Tie a bow around vases.
My white anthro vases are perfectly neutral all other times of the year but during Christmastime, a bow is an absolute must! Bows bring me so much joy!

Do you use bows for decorating? I would love to hear some ideas that I didn’t list here!
