This year for Labor Day, Nic and I ventured east to Washington D.C. for one of my very best friend’s weddings in Georgetown. We flew in a lil’ early on Friday so we could do a bit of sight-seeing before all of the wedding festivities began 🙂 First up, selfies at The White House (everyone else was doing it too, haha):
The U.S. Department of Treasury building is so pretty…
As is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building…
Next up, the Washington Monument…
Nic and I’s favorite DC memorial has to be the Lincoln, I mean… our dog is (kind of) named after this monument!
I am a HUGE fan of the Kennedy family (this is one of my all-time favorite books) and I absolutely love all the history associated with this famous family. After we toured the National Mall, we ventured over to 3307 N Street in Georgetown – aka where John and Jackie lived before they moved into the White House. They lived in this house while JFK ran for President, when their daughter Caroline was a little girl, and when Jackie gave birth to John Jr. It’s here that the President-elect held many press conferences on the front steps and it’s the house from which the couple departed on a snowy morning in January 1961 to go to the inauguration and then move into the White House. Talk about history. To see some (amazing) history of the Kennedy’s living in this home, these photos are amazing!
Continuing on our self-guided Kennedy tour, Nic and I had dinner at Martin’s Tavern which is just down the street from the Kennedy’s house on N Street + Wisconsin. Martin’s Tavern has fed the mouths of many, many past Presidents. It was a favorite of JFK, Harry Truman, and Richard Nixon. It is here where John proposed to Jackie! The booth even has a plaque – aka “The Proposal Booth.” So cool.
On Saturday, while the girls and I were off getting our nails done, lunching at Tony & Joe’s Seafood at Washington Harbour, and finding Rhino Bar, the Ohio State bar in the middle of Georgetown, Nic and the guys actually headed to the OSU game in Baltimore! Here is a snap he took:
The beautiful Bride & I outside of Tony & Joe’s… Don’t you just love her dress? 🙂
Pretty, pretty canals and buildings in Georgetown… I just loved all the history:
Sunday was Katie & Tal’s wedding day! How gorgeous are these flowers?!?!
So stunning!!!
The wedding was held at the gorgeous Four Seasons in Georgetown! Talk about amazing customer service.
Katie and Tal had the CUTEST guest book idea I’ve ever seen. While they both met while living in D.C., Katie is from Ohio and Tal moved to the U.S. from Israel. They had their guests sign well-wishes on a globe to symbolize their relationship with a sign next to the globe, “You mean the World to us.” So cute and so thoughtful!
Katie didn’t have traditional bridesmaids in her wedding but she did have a house party which was a neat idea. She got us such a cool present, again, going with the world theme: sterling silver bracelets engraved with our hometown’s geographic coordinates!
I think the Ronald Reagan National Airport is very pretty, with a lot of natural light when you first enter. I had to snap a couple shots…
A few other places are definitely worth noting: Saturday night, the rehearsal dinner was held at Pizzeria Paradiso which was delicious with the some of the best bruschetta I’ve ever had! Afterwards, it was so fun seeing nearly everyone at the “Welcome to D.C.” party at Ri Ra in Georgetown. We stayed at Avenue Suites which was just a couple of blocks from downtown Georgetown. We also were able to walk to The White House and the National Mall from this hotel. Plus, the rates were great, Trader Joe’s was just across the street, it’s relatively new, and we had a kitchen!
