Our January Book Shelf

Hi, friends! Looking for winter-themed children’s books? I’ve rounded up our current shelf, along with a few others that you may enjoy.

PARKER LOOKS UP – This story follows Parker, along with her baby sister and her mother, and her best friend Gia and Gia’s mother, as they walk the halls of a museum, seeing paintings of everyone and everything from George Washington Carver to Frida Kahlo, exotic flowers to graceful ballerinas. Then, Parker walks by Sherald’s portrait of Michelle Obama…and almost passes it. But she stops…and looks up! Parker saw the possibility and promise, the hopes and dreams of herself in this powerful painting of Michelle Obama. An everyday moment became an extraordinary one…that continues to resonate its power, inspiration, and indelible impact. Because, as Jessica Curry said, “anything is possible regardless of race, class, or gender.”

THE TEA PARTY IN THE WOODS – When a young girl named Kikko realizes her father has forgotten the pie he was supposed to bring to Grandma’s house, she offers to try and catch him as he makes his way through the woods. She hurriedly follows her father’s footprints in the snow and happens upon a large house she has never seen before. Curious, Kikko peers through the window, when she is startled by a small lamb wearing a coat and carrying a purse. Even more surprising, the lamb speaks, asking her in a kind voice, ?Are you here for the tea party?? Suddenly, Kikko realizes her trip through the woods has turned into something magical.

EDIE IS EVER SO HELPFUL – Edie is EVER so helpful. In fact, helping is one of the things she’s best at! Some might even say she’s too good. Whether it’s helping her family wake up bright and early with an extremely loud song, brightening up the walls of her house with lots and lots of colorful paint, or styling grandpa’s hair in the latest fashion . . . while he’s fast asleep, sometimes Edie needs to be reminded not to be quite so helpful.

THE WISH TREE – Charles wants to find a wish tree. His brother and sister don’t believe there is such a thing, but his trusty companion Boggan is ready to join Charles on a journey to find out. And along the way, they discover that wishes can come true in the most unexpected ways.

MICE SKATING – For most field mice, winter means burrowing down and snuggling in. But not for Lucy! She loves snow crunching under her paws and wearing a fluffy wool hat. And most of all, Lucy loves to skate, and she’s just ACHING to show off her new skill with her friends. After all, a winter wonderland is twice as nice when you have friends to enjoy it with. But the other mice just don’t understand—and after a disastrous indoor snowball fight, it looks as if they never will. Can Lucy find a way to make the other mice come out and “mice skate” too?

MCKAY AND THE MAGICAL HAT – This book is part of the “magical hat” series. It is written by Kate David, an Ohioan! McKay wonders what she can be when she grows up? Is there something she is destined to become? Are there things she can’t be? As readers begin McKay’s imaginative journey where she explores some of the many things she can be when she grows up, they may find themselves reconsidering their own stereotypes about careers little girls dream to have.

WHO YOU WERE MADE TO BE – The new Joanna Gaines book that was gifted to us by my sister-in-law and brother at Christmas. It’s absolutely darling with the most magical illustrations. This book celebrates how creativity and acceptance can come together to make for a bright and beautiful adventure. The book follows a group of children as they each build their very own hot-air balloons. As the kids work together, leaning into their own skills and processes, to fill the sky with beautiful colors, we discover that the same is true for life–it’s more beautiful and vibrant when our differences are celebrated.

Thank you sweet friends for your messages after my Thank you sweet friends for your messages after my stories last night. 🤍 I think right now what is so worrisome is all of the neurological symptoms that are coming from this virus... loss of taste & smell, smelling smoke/disgusting smells, and dizziness. There are waves of good hours and waves of bad and every morning I wake up with new symptoms. Again, I have a few upcoming scheduled posts + I may give updates on symptoms but that’s about it on here. I can’t believe Covid finally hit our house... and we were so close to getting the vaccine. 😫

🤍 It's time to refresh our towels + bedding for the New Year! After heading to @meijerstores, I picked up fresh white towels, pretty patterned sheets + pillowcases, and a classic, crisp white quilt. 🥰 To keep everything tidy, I added in some woven baskets + wire bins. I layered in greenery 🌱 for natural elements as well as pretty + functional cleaners, a gorgeous candle, and a sign with personality! How do you keep your bath and bedroom linens organized? #Meijer #NewYear #Organization
Our January #bookshelfie 🤍 Clean, fresh, + simp Our January #bookshelfie 🤍 Clean, fresh, + simple. // I’ve been absent on social this week, actually really since the change of the New Year. This was intentional & planned before what happened this week. Just because I’ve been silent on here doesn’t mean I haven’t been speaking out in real life. I chose to listen on here, quite a lost art that I’m personally working on improving this year. 🤍 I’ll leave you with this: The other day, Ava and I were reading Parker Looks Up, one of the books we’re reading this month. 📖 She looked at me and said, “I love her skin Mommy. Isn’t it pretty?” Yes, my dear it is. ❤️
2 0 2 1 ✨🤍🥳 Anyone else’s kids up at the 2 0 2 1 ✨🤍🥳 Anyone else’s kids up at the same time they always are although they stayed up late last night?! 🙈 Our 2 from our “2021” balloons popped soooo we just put up 21 ☺️ We danced forever, played games, had a 9pm ball drop & wrapped up 2020 the only way we knew how... with each other. 🤍 #nye #bye2020 #hello2021
