SCHMIDT’S SAUSAGE HAUS
240 E KOSSUTH ST
COLUMBUS, OHIO
Schmidt’s oozes with history. Featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network, the authentic German restaurant began as a food stand at the Ohio State Fair. My pictures show everything in the “Schmidt’s area” on Kossuth Street, but the restaurant is where IT’s at. And by “IT,” I mean the vanilla cream puff. Okay, so I know everyone goes to Schmidt’s for the sausage (Bahama Mama, anyone?) but being practically a vegetarian (well, not quite), I go for their cream puff. Unless you have a massive sweet tooth or stomach, do not attempt to finish one on your own. It’s large. They do have a parking lot but if you choose to park on the street — enjoy the walk — the restaurant is in such a great location in German Village, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Food pictured below: German draft beer sampler – loved the Paulaner Oktoberfest, Haus salad, Bavarian ham and cheese with potato salad, German meatloaf with potato pancakes, potato salad & applesauce, vanilla cream puff.
